Gavin Hughes Daniels, our co-founding principal of Wingate Hughes Architects, is partnering with WeDC at the 2016 SXSW Interactive Festival to share DC’s startup success stories that are catapulting the District into the national tech spotlight. Daniels has been part of the program for three years now. The Washington DC Economic Partnership (WDCEP), together with the Executive Office of the Mayor of the District of Columbia (EOM), the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED), and Events DC, collaborates on the annual WeDC program. DC will be present at SXSW in Austin, Texas from March 12 to 15.
What We’re Accomplishing at SXSW
WDCEP’s SXSW goal is to expand D.C.’s technology sector, promote our city’s innovative startup companies, highlight creative talent, and foster new partnerships among the D.C. and national business communities. More than 300 members of the D.C. technology community will attend SXSW to market their companies, and 30 D.C. startups are chosen to be part of the WeDC House showcase to show how they use tech and innovation to solve global challenges. At SXSW, a cool thing happens for Washington. WeDC’s Brand Ambassadors and WeDC participants tell D.C.’s story and share details of our amazing community network, forward-thinking minds, and creative innovation — many qualities that national politics tend to overshadow for our city. At SXSW, we are all there to tell the #WeDC story.
Why Wingate Hughes Cares about D.C.’s Startups
Tech companies are a growing presence in D.C. and began popping up in the District the same year Wingate Hughes founded in 2010. We are a unique architecture firm in D.C. because we are excited to design for the startup company down the street. We’ve been on a similar journey, and we know how important it is to have a space that reflects the culture of the company. We have a similar mindset to D.C.’s startups, understand the fight it takes to succeed, and are always learning and improving on what we design and build. We will do anything possible to help D.C.’s startups make it, and this passion led Daniels to WDCEP and to become an active partner with WeDC. He is proud to support the amazing people Wingate Hughes works with in the tech scene and to promote DC as a thriving creative hub.
Celebrate DC’s Innovators and Innovations
Wingate Hughes and The Ezra Company, partnering with WDCEP, are celebrating D.C.’s biggest innovators and VIPs at the WeDC House Monday night at 6:00pm. This event is designed to connect and exclusive to Founders, CEOs and VCs from around the nation with DC’s established thought leaders. A local DC playlist will spin all night as we toast D.C.’s tech mavens over food and drinks with District VIPs. The Honorable Muriel Bowser, Mayor of Washington, D.C., is our special guest. Email SXSW2016@wingatehughes.com for information.
Come early, stay late for the after party! The WeDC Celebration starts immediately after at 8pm.
