Wingate Hughes’ project designers Kate Magee and Kelly Nichols recently visited Masland Carpet and Rugs manufacturing facility in Mobile, Alabama. In honor of their voyage to the Masland factory, we’re walking you through Division 9 Associate‘s downtown DC office and showroom, designed by Wingate Hughes. Division 9, the largest Masland Contract sales group in the country, utilizes light, multiple flooring options, and custom millwork to showcase products.
“Masland Contract has assembled a team of professionals that are flooring experts, not just sales people, and we are committed to support them with the tools necessary to further their success,” shares Lee Martin, past President of Masland Contract. “Since this is a textile business, people need to see and touch the carpet itself. We place a premium on presenting the product in the best form possible, and this new showroom gives us those opportunities.”
Step inside Division 9 …
The central Masland laser-cut text wrapped column draws focus and attention to Division 9’s open, fluid space.
Several carpet and flooring styles highlight the versatility of Division 9’s products and creates purposeful areas without building physical barriers. Opposing Chartreuse BuzziSkin walls in the conference room coordinate with the Masland column, provide acoustic absorbency, and function as a tackable, interactive work surface.
The complementary juxtaposition of the dropped ACT ceiling and carpet line alongside the recessed slab ceiling and polished concrete floor creates a fluid separation between the formal reception space and the interactive work space and showroom. The wall-to-wall windows and polished neutral flooring set an ideal environment for customers when trying products.
Division 9’s custom, powered island achieves several goals for the user including seamless pull-drawer and shelving storage for books and samples, a standing-height digital-friendly work surface, and ample counter space for customers to sample products. The custom three-track wall slip system maneuvers and arranges samples easily and allows for quick-change curation.
The conference room’s exterior wall holds an additional wall-mounted slip system for larger carpet samples.
“Division 9’s design enhances the various flooring and finishes on display, provides a complementary backdrop for customers to sample our products, and has ample space for my team to work and meet with clients,” states Larry Hooper, President and Co-founder of Division 9. “We pride ourselves on sdiservice, and it was important for our space to function as a showroom and as an office so we can provide the best service to our clients.”
