Wingate Hughes Architect Sessions feature the top real estate brokers, architects, business leaders, and CEO/Founders in DC to demystify complicated business, design, and real estate issues affecting business owners and operators. This session features Kate Mereand, Program Manager, Innovation & Equitable Development, Department of Small & Local Business Development (DSLBD) and Gavin Daniels, Co-founding Principal of Wingate Hughes.

Kate Mereand, Program Manager, Innovation & Equitable Development, Department of Small & Local Business Development (DSLBD)Kate Mereand: Kate, Program Manager, Made in DC and Innovation & Equitable Development at the Department of Small & Local Business Development (DSLBD), dedicates her career to rethinking the design of government to meet the needs of the public in this new economy in ways that are fair, inclusive, and aimed at widespread growth. Her background is in management consulting, non-profits, human services, telecom, antitrust, and consumer protection. She received her law degree from GW and completed coursework towards a Public Policy degree at Georgetown’s McCourt School while working for the DC City Government.

Made in DC is a program of the DC Department of Small and Local Business Development which aims to support and promote businesses that design, make, produce, and/or assemble products in the District of Columbia. As a response to the momentum and growth of the maker and creative economy in Washington, DC, Made in DC functions as a citywide campaign and platform to create opportunity for maker businesses. Made in DC brings businesses together for resource and experience sharing, as well as function as a conduit and messenger between makers and local government. Kate is the main contact for the program.

She has 20 years of experience in asset transformation and upgrades for interior design projects, including fitness centers, conference facilities, restroom renovations, and lobby renovations and improvements in the hospitality, global non-profit, and architectural industries.
